Kojo Ako-Asare is a Managing Director and Investment Committee member at Decarbonization Partners, a joint venture by BlackRock and Temasek investing in innovative technology companies focused on solutions that accelerate global efforts towards a net-zero economy. In this role, Kojo leads investment sourcing, underwriting, execution and portfolio management.
Currently, Kojo serves on the boards of AE NewCo (formerly Ascend Elements), a European advanced battery material company and Antora Energy, a modular thermal battery manufacturer. He also serves as Decarb Partners’ lead investor for BETA Technologies, a sustainable aviation company.
Kojo has over two decades of transaction experience, including: principal investing, project finance, capital raising, M&A and real estate development. Prior to joining Decarb Partners, he was a Partner at Emerson Collective (“EC”), where he co-led the organization’s ClimateTech investment efforts. Before EC, Kojo served as Alphabet’s Head of Corporate Finance, where led all capital markets activities and built an industry leading investment team focused on renewable energy infrastructure projects. He later joined GoogleX, an organization focused on advancing breakthrough technologies to address major global challenges, where served as the Chief Operating Officer for Makani Power.
Earlier in his career, Kojo held a senior investing banking role at Citigroup, where he advised leading technology and telecommunications companies. He is also a decorated US Marine Corp veteran who has deployed to Afghanistan’s Helmand province, as part of NATO’s 2009 troop surge.
Kojo holds graduate degrees from Columbia University in both Business Administration (MBA) and International Affairs (MIA). He also holds a Bachelor’s in Science and Engineering (BSE) in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan.
